ALPINE EXPERIENCE

Life at the Academy

Life at the academy revolves around the sports and academic programmes but there is much more to be gained from the experience. We aim for each racer's stay to be a really enjoyable and valuable taste of life on the ski circuit.

The students learn to be well organised. They breathe the culture and geography of the Alps and work together in peer groups with a healthy team spirit. We travel to races, to the town of Chamonix and to other attractions in the region.
Our team of housemothers have overall responsibility for pastoral care. Ensuring the well-being of the students, also supervising bedtimes, rooming, pocket money disbursements and laundry.

Full medical insurance with cover for ski racing is mandatory. (Insurance for travel and loss of or damage to property is also advised.) Minor ailments and first aid are dealt with in house. Local medical services are accessed where necessary. Application authorises the academy to act in loco parentis in the case of an emergency, although every effort would be made to contact the parents in such a situation. Medical costs incurred are recoverable from parents, insurance or E 111.

Letter from Ross Gardner, 2011
To Malcolm and the Staff at BSA

The Scottish Ski Team would like to say a big thanks for making our training during the final part of our season very beneficial. We based ourselves in Les Houches for the month of March which meant we could access lots of good races in the area and prepare for the GB and Scottish Championships in a great environment.  The Staff and coaches at BSA were very welcoming and supportive of our training along side them and I think that all the athletes benefited from this.

We are looking to do something similar in the coming season as so many of the Team come from BSA and it makes the step up to FIS easier when we head back to familiar training facilities. Both Finlay Mickel and myself did notice the difference being in a place like Les Houches made for training as it is well set up on the mountain and they enjoy having young racers there.
Thanks for your Help
