The British Ski Academy (BSA)

The BSA serves as a winter base for junior British ski racers aiming to achieve the highest standards in Alpine ski racing. Racers from eight to sixteen years old join the BSA in the Chamonix valley for tailored school and ski programmes that can last from a few weeks to the whole winter. Younger racers from 8 to 11 frequently live out and many students have their first experience of race training with the BSA.

The level of individual attention and input is excellent. The UK's junior and senior national ski teams are mainly comprised of current and former BSA trainees.

TJ Baldwin, British Champion

"Going to BSA has given me some of the best memories I have to date. I had so much fun there, I absolutely loved it. But not only was it fun, it was hard work. The skiing I did and the skills I learnt from BSA is what gave me the platform to build on to get where I am today. Without BSA I can confidently say I would not have progressed to the level I am at now as quickly as I have done. Not only did it stand me in good stead with my skiing, it also gave me the best possible schooling to do well in my GCSEs. I enjoyed going to school at BSA more than I ever did when I was at home. The teachers were always great, and, with a better teacher to pupil ratio, we always got the help and attention needed to fly through the work quickly and successfully. There will always be a place in my heart for BSA and I would recommend it to anyone!"

Ed Drake, British Male No. 1

"The British Ski Academy is a fantastic programme. I was able to complete my studies whilst being able to ski full time. It was like bringing the mountains into my classroom."

The BSA is the UK's most successful junior Alpine race training centre. Whilst many young ski racers achieve excellent results by complementing their main club programme with spells at the BSA, those racers who train exclusively under the BSA banner have achieved the following:

Best overall Children One (U13) club at the British Alpine Ski championships 2004 2005 2006 2007 2009 2010 2011
Best overall Children Two (U15) club at the British Alpine Ski championships 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2010 2011
Best Junior Club at the British Alpine Ski championships 2008 2009 2010 2011

The BSA sets the standard for UK children’s ski racing as the main feeder of the national ski teams. We have also branched out into freestyle – congratulations to Monty Wright on his top three at the 2011 Junior X Games after six weeks at the BSA.  Way to go, Yas Cooper, on your slalom 9th at Topolino (the children’s World Champs) and to Meg Jenkins snapping just behind in 11th. To all our trainees working on their fitness, preparing for the next camp: keep it up, you could be the next Ed or TJ.

New racer families, visit contact us and get in touch. We will be glad to answer any questions.
