The British Ski Academy (BSA) serves serves as a winter base for junior British ski racers aiming to achieve the highest standards in Alpine ski racing. Racers from eight to sixteen years old join the BSA in the Chamonix valley for tailored school and ski programmes that can last from a few weeks to the whole winter. Younger racers from 8 to 11 frequently live out and many students have their first experience of race training with the BSA. The BSA is the UK's most successful junior Alpine race training centre. Whilst many young ski racers achieve excellent results by complementing their main club programme with spells at the BSA, those racers who train exclusively under the BSA banner have achieved the following: : Best overall Children One (U13) club at the British Alpine Ski championships Best overall Children Two (U15) club at the British Alpine Ski championships Best Junior Club at the British Alpine Ski championships Malcolm Erskine, BSA Programme Director: "The main change for 2011 will be a division of the responsibility for the girls’ and boys’ programmes. I am delighted to announce that Lynn Sharp and Scott Bryson have taken up the new positions of BSA Head Girls’ Coach and BSA Head Boys’ Coach. Lynn and Scott both trained at the BSA at children’s level and went on to race on the British ski team until relatively recently. Awesome skiers in their own right, their coaching professionalism and commitment to the next generation of aspiring young racers is also a pleasure to behold! After the successes of recent years our training groups will continue to be decided each week largely on the basis of the results from our end of week races and skills contests. The weekly group selection is designed to engender a spirit of competition amongst the trainees who will appreciate that the faster they ski in the races and develop their skill base, the higher their group placing for the following week. However, we are keen to offer consistent support to our trainees, and the Head Boys and Girls coaches will seek to ensure that the younger trainees in particular have one main coach overseeing their development. Each coach will be responsible for the ski and fitness training, video work and ski prep of their small group. Each group's video sessions will be hosted by their coach and attended by other BSA coaches to ensure a consensus-based input of high quality to ensure a range of input as well as continuity. On the schooling side I would like to congratulate Brendan McCormick and his tutorial team for delivering such a strong programme in recent years. We have had many reports of students returning to school with improving grades. This demonstrates that with hard work children can excel at both sport and school with the proper support from coaches, tutors and families. The full staff list will be published in the Autumn. For now, I would like also to welcome Sega Fairweather onto the BSA coaching team for the 2011 season. Sega, herself a courageous and highly talented racer, will be taking time out from her racing career to support our young stars of the futureWe aim to continue raising the standard of UK junior ski race training. The message to any competitive young British ski racer willing to work hard is that the British Ski Academy can make a serious difference in helping them to fulfil their dreams." |
